Dental Bridges in New Haven and Macomb County

Restore your smile and bite with a custom dental bridge.

A missing tooth affects your ability to chew, speak clearly, and smile confidently. Dental bridges offer an effective way to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring a replacement tooth to adjacent teeth. At New Haven Family Dental, we create custom dental bridges that look natural, feel comfortable, and restore your smile’s function and beauty. We serve patients across New Haven, Chesterfield, Richmond, Lenox, and the rest of Macomb County.

What’s Included in Your Dental Bridge Process

We understand that replacing a missing tooth is important. That’s why we guide you through every step with clear communication and expert care. Here’s what the bridge process includes:

Assessment and Treatment Planning

We’ll examine your missing tooth site and the adjacent teeth that will support the bridge. We’ll discuss bridge options, explain how the procedure works, and answer your questions.

Tooth Preparation, Impression and Mold

We’ll prepare the anchor teeth (called abutment teeth) by removing a small amount of tooth structure so the bridge crowns fit properly. We’ll numb the area for your comfort.

We’ll take a precise impression of your prepared teeth and the gap. This mold ensures your bridge fits perfectly and your bite is correct. We’ll also match the color to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.

Temporary and Permanent Bridge Placement

While your permanent bridge is being created in our lab (typically one to two weeks), we’ll place a temporary bridge to protect your teeth and maintain function.

Once your permanent bridge is ready, we’ll remove the temporary bridge and check the fit and bite of your new bridge. We’ll make any adjustments needed, then cement it permanently in place.

Types of Dental Bridges

Bridges can be made from different materials and designed in different ways. A traditional bridge uses crowns on adjacent teeth to support the replacement tooth. A cantilever bridge uses only one anchor tooth. We’ll discuss the best option for your situation.

How Long Do Dental Bridges Last?

With proper care, dental bridges typically last 5 to 15 years or longer. Brushing and flossing carefully around the bridge, avoiding hard or sticky foods, and scheduling regular checkups will extend the life of your bridge.

FAQ

Dental Bridges FAQ

How long does the bridge process take?

The entire process typically takes two to three weeks from consultation to final placement. We’ll work at your pace without sacrificing quality.

Will my bridge feel natural?

Yes. Modern bridges are designed to feel and function like your natural teeth. It may take a few days to adjust to the bridge, but you’ll quickly forget you’re wearing one.

How do I care for my bridge?

Brush and floss carefully around your bridge, just like you would your natural teeth. Use a floss threader to clean under the bridge. Avoid very hard or sticky foods that could damage it.

Can the teeth under my bridge get cavities?

A bridge uses adjacent teeth for support and requires no surgery. An implant replaces the missing tooth independently with a titanium post in the jaw. Bridges are typically less expensive but don’t last as long as implants.

What’s the difference between a bridge and an implant?

A bridge uses adjacent teeth for support and requires no surgery. An implant replaces the missing tooth independently with a titanium post in the jaw. Bridges are typically less expensive but don’t last as long as implants.

Will my bridge look natural?

Modern bridges, especially those made from tooth-colored materials, look virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. We’ll match the color and shape to blend perfectly with your smile.

What happens if I grind my teeth at night?

Grinding can damage your bridge over time. If you grind your teeth, we recommend wearing a night guard to protect your bridge and natural teeth.
